Kiltan Beach Lakshadweep
Where?
Kiltan is 3 kms long and has the breath of only 594 meters. This island is 50 kms from Amini, towards the northeast. To be a little more precise it is at 11 degrees29' north latitude and 72 degrees 00' east longitude.
Why Kiltan?
This island is trade route between Sri Lanka and Persian Gulf countries. Eastern boarder has coral boulders formed by a storm in 1965. On western boarder is lagoon, which is shallow. This lagoon is in progression of filling up. Due to its shallow nature this lagoon doesn’t allow larger boat to enter during low tides. Along the heart of the islet is a hard rock like substratum and limestone, which are slash for edifice purposes.
What else?
The atoll is productive and densely planted. The high temperature of the summer is excruciating and hence, the people sleep on the beaches in cadjan leaves cubicles. Quite a few such cubicles are seen along the western beach during these months.
How do I get there?
If you wish to reach the island by air then Indian Airlines flights operate except Sunday. The closest airport is at Agatti and Bangaram. You can take boats from various islands in Lakshadweep to Kiltan. Or you can take cruise from Mumbai. There is no rail and road transport as it is an island.
Where do I stay?
You can stay at cottages, which are available at main city. They are well maintained and assure that the food they serve clean and hygienic food.
What do I carry?
It is necessary to carry handy cam to capture these beautiful moments. Apart from that do carry sunscreen lotion. Do carry your preferred brand of medicine, cigarettes, cosmetics etc with you, as only local brands is available.
