Kadmat Beach Lakshadweep

Where?

Kadmat is 8 kms long and has the breath of only 550 meters. This island is 10 kms from Amini, towards the north. To be a little more precise it is at 11 degrees13' north latitude and 72 degrees 48' east longitude.

Why Kadmat?

Gushing waves, serene atmosphere, cool green palm trees and sandy. Lagoons are specialty of this beach. Western side of this beach has copious coral and it is shallow in nature, whereas eastern coast of this island has narrow lagoon. Southern tip of Lakshadweep has been made up and is sandy. This is the best place to have sunbath and just to lie down. Non-Indians are not permitted on this island. This island is also famous for its scuba diving as you can see crystal clear water till 20-50 meters. In this beautiful water you can visibly see fishes like shark, ray etc.

What else?

It was only in 19th century that people residing at Kadmat got civilized systematically. They were tortured by some economical and societal disabilities. Before 19th century Amine landlords had claimed the entire island as their possession, because of which, Kadmat citizens were not permitted to built their own seafaring vessels and had to transport their own nautical vessels. They were only allowed to make a transaction in Amini vessels. The interference was not restricted to trade. Amini landlords also interfered in their religions. The local resident were not permitted to have Kazis to carry out all sacred and communal functions. These ill practices were revolted against successfully. The main livelihood of the populace of Kadmat is coir twisting. The island is acknowledged for its limestone used for constructional purposes.

How do I get there?

If you wish to reach the island by air then Indian Airlines flights operate except Sunday. The closest airport is at Agatti and Bangaram. You can take boats from various islands in Lakshadweep to Kadmat. Or you can take cruise from Mumbai. There is no rail and road transport as it is an island.

Where do I stay?

You can stay at cottages, which are available at main city. They are well maintained and assure that the food they serve clean and hygienic food.

What do I carry?

Carry essential medicines, drinking water and dry snacks, things are not easily available here.
