Amini Beach Lakshadweep
Where?
Amini is located at 11 degree 7' north latitude and 72 degree 44' east longitude. Mangalore is 304kms away from Amini. The total area of this island is 7 sq. km
Why Amini?
Amini is an oblong island, shallow from all the sides. The first inhabited island of Lakshadweep was Amini. Tenants of Amini landlord later habituated in near by island. Coral sandstone is formed on eastern and western border of this islet. This used to build houses by local people. You can buy walking stick, which are made from tortoise and coconut shell. You can also purchase intricately carved coral stones. Do not forget to hear their beautiful folk songs. Evening walks can be of great fun here.
How do I get there?
If you wish to reach the island by air then Indian Airlines flights operate except Sunday. The closest airport is at Agatti and Bangaram. You can take boats from various islands in Lakshadweep to Amini. Or you can take cruise from Mumbai. There is no rail and road transport as it is an island.
Where do I stay?
You can stay at cottages, hotels etc which are available in the main cities. They are well maintained and assure that the food they serve is clean and hygienic.
What do I carry?
It is necessary to carry lot of cotton clothes, sturdy walking shoes or sandals and a pair of sunglasses. A hat or a baseball cap is also recommended for protection from sun.
